Diesel Particulate Filter
Since 2008, many diesel powered vehicles have been fitted with DPF’s to meet the requirements of Euro 5 emission standards.
The DPF acts as a soot trap to collect minute particles from the exhaust emissions, while still allowing the gasses to be expelled. The DPF has a self-cleaning process called regeneration, where higher temperatures in the exhaust are created to burn these particles to ash. Driving habits will dictate the condition and longevity of a DPF. Stop-start city driving will lead to clogging of the filter element, and eventual failure. Manufacturers guidelines should be followed to ensure the regeneration process is carried out.
It is illegal to remove a diesel particulate filter from a registered vehicle’s exhaust system and will render the vehicle unroadworthy.
At Melville Muffler and Brakes, we have years of experience with the replacement of DPF’s. Bring your vehicle in for a free inspection and we can assess the current condition of your DPF, and advise you on the options available for replacement.
We will be a more competitive option than dealer fitted (OEM) parts.
